Famous destroyed water tower in Vukovar |
I spent last weekend in Vukovar, in far eastern Croatia. Vukovar is the Croatian city that suffered the most damage in the war during the early 1990s. It is right on the border with Serbia. The city was almost entirely destroyed in the war and most of it looked like the photos above. One of our Biblijski institut graduates and his wife, Vlado and Renata Pšenko, moved there two years ago. They were also members of our church in Zagreb. I was invited last weekend to participate in one of their main on-going evangelistic outreaches, the Valley of Blessing. This is a monthly evening of Christian poetry and song. This event truly is a blessing to this community that still suffers the emotional and spiritual wounds of the war, even as much of the physical damage is being repaired. I also preached on Sunday morning in the Church of God in Vukovar, with which Vlado and Renata have a good partnership.
